New York City shooting with Kodak

Andrew and I went to NYC this past weekend to give ourselves a little breather and to have some fun during finals. We took the film cameras (of course!). I used the Canon-AE1 and Kodak Portra 400 and Tri-X 400, as usual. I plan on trying out different film types over winter break, so if you guys have any suggestions please feel free to shoot them my way! I’ll keep this intro short so we can get to the photos 🙂

Hotdog stand, they’re everywhere. I’ve only ever gotten a pretzel.

Street performer. Word of advice, if you are going to stand there and photograph someone who is performing, it's always nice to give them some $$$ for not minding despite them being out in public.

Hello! Andrew and I. Sometimes you have to look up.

Happy colors make me happy.

This is New York.

Smell Flowers not Smoke.

Smoke and windpipes.

Topsy Turvy. Plus, I love The Christmas Story.

Skyscrapers and America.

Bokeh. Blurred. Fast. Typical.

Street shooting is my favorite. I tend to do it very fast, so people don’t notice. Every once in awhile someone WILL notice and they usually just smile or a conversation may ignite. But usually people don’t notice. Isn’t that creepy? No, not any creepier than someone writing about random people on the street. Documenting is a part of life and that is what I do. Creeping on people is weird, I guess, but I prefer to just call it observing. 😉

I also shot a roll of Tri-X but Tech Lab won’t finish processing that until Friday, so I will post as soon as possible. My camera door popped open half way through it, so the shots might look….interesting.

  1. Great photos…..they really show the hustle and bustle of New York City …..Great observations and hey…..I never thought of actually looking above my head while there….LOL….You practically have to look up at all the tall buildings or you’ll miss so much……I truly miss the yearly trips to NYC…..keep your articles and photos coming…..for me they are educational!

    • Thanks! I was actually surprised because normally this camera gives me light leaks but I didn’t have a single one on this roll. That Portra is always great for color too. This was also pushed to 3200, well, by accident. Processed normally.
