It’s finally nice outside! I took advantage of the nice weather yesterday before work to have a weird little shoot in the forest with Valentina. I realized I was out of film beforehand and had to drive all over Baltimore to find a few rolls of Kodak Portra 400. It seems that it’s not so popular anymore and the shipments come in less and less. I think I paid around $10 per roll and $12 for the roll of 800 speed which is ridiculous. From now on, it’s Amazon.com for all of my film needs. I am all for supporting local labs but their prices per roll of film is insane. I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that I spent almost $80 yesterday on seven rolls of film. Ughhhh. On the bright side, I now have a bag of film for the next few weeks.
Back to my shoot. I decided to go with something weird, as usual, and I have been wanting to use a kitty mask for the longest time. I finally found one and the creepiness factor was definitely apparent. Valentina is the poster child for UrbanOutfitters, (really, she actually works there) so her styling made these photos stand out.
I used the typical camera, the Canon AE-1. Next week I’ll be posting from a different camera and with different film, so things should be interesting. I love the lack of contrast and muted colors from Portra so much, they’re hard to stray from. I bought some Kodak Ektar. Apparently there are all of these Ektar vs Portra debates online so I figured I’d compare myself. Maybe this could be the beginning of a new relationship!
As always here are a few digital comparisons:
Thanks for looking. Also, I’m having a film photo show tonight (I’m part of an artist showcase) at The Crazy Russian at 7pm. Check this Facebook event invite to the Interrupted Show for more info!
